Newsweek “#1 Nursing Home in Va.,” American Health Care Association Ad Spotlight Among Recent Accolades

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 16, 2020 – For Woodbine Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Alexandria, recognition as Virginia’s #1 nursing home in Newsweek’s “America’s Best Nursing Homes 2021” and a spotlight in the American Health Care Association’s (AHCA/NCAL’s) latest ad campaign speak to quality services and patient care at the 307-bed skilled nursing facility. Located at 2729 King St., Woodbine has the state’s largest licensed skilled nursing capacity.

Newsweek, in partnership with global data research firm Statista Inc., established its “America’s Best Nursing Homes 2021,” recognizing the top 400 out of 10,647 homes in the 20 most populous states. The ranking is based on performance data, peer recommendations and the facility’s handling of the COVID-19 threat. Woodbine maintains a five-star rating in quality measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

AHCA/NCAL is the nation’s largest association of long term and post-acute care providers and regularly highlights stories, often told by family members, of exceptional care at skilled nursing facilities. AHCA’s commercials featuring Woodbine are running on numerous national channels, including the Hallmark Channel, TLC and Food Network.

“These recent honors are a clear testament to our leadership and the entire team’s commitment to clinical excellence and outstanding care for our patients,” said Woodbine’s Jennifer Patrick, admissions director. “We are always touched to hear the reflections of our patients’ family members, such as those featured in the AHCA commercials. It’s a wonderful feeling, and we love having the world see all the good here at Woodbine.”

Dedicated Ventilator Unit Distinguishes Specialty Care Offerings

Woodbine provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab, and long-term residential care, with a range of progressive, specialty skilled nursing services. Among them, Woodbine offers a Ventilator & Respiratory Care program, with a dedicated 50-bed ventilator unit; it is the only offering of its kind within a skilled nursing setting in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

Woodbine’s pulmonary rehabilitation specialization caters to patients who are ventilator and tracheostomy dependent, have debilitating respiratory conditions and disorders, and who could benefit from 24/7 care provided by respiratory therapists, pulmonologists, and specially trained nurses and caregivers. Dr. Samir Al-Khouri, one of the area’s leading pulmonologists, oversees the 25-year-old program.

Woodbine’s multi-disciplinary approach to care combines respiratory therapies with physical, occupational, and speech therapies, among other services. “Our care team is well known for its skill in handling complex issues for chronic ventilator and trach patients, many of whom have co-morbidities,” added Patrick. “We have drawn patients from well beyond our immediate market – including transfers from Florida, North Carolina, and West Virginia.”

Woodbine also offers specialized dementia care and respite care offerings. For more information on the skilled nursing facility and its programming, visit https://woodbinerehab.com.
